• The administering of a controlled burn helps to restore a section of the Florida landscape to its natural state. These fires remove invasive species and increase biodiversity at ground level by allowing sunlight to penetrate the once dense vegetation. While wildfires can be devastating to human developments, many of Florida’s native species rely on them to survive. Looking closely at this large multi-image composite reveals burn marks on the sides of palm trees and a sea of fresh native grasses which quickly return once the blaze is extinguished. The photo is a reminder that care of our environment is not a passive process and includes active stewardship such as controlled burns and maintained wildlife corridors to help mitigate damage caused by human action.
