Our acting classes explore the basics of the body, the voice, and the imagination in theatre while learning character principles. Students are challenged to create characters and improvise scenes, as well as to engage in exercises in movement and voice – all helping to build resiliency and self-confidence. Working as an ensemble, students are introduced to more challenging scripts, scenes, and monologues. Hands-on instruction in acting, creative movement, and voice fosters character development through working collectively as an ensemble.

The exploration of scene study through character development helps the actor expand through the use of spontaneity, creativity, imagination, and humor.  Our acting classes are the perfect fit for teens who are interested in pursuing acting, directing, or film making. Instruction in basic acting principles and vocal technique will be emphasized, along with how the body can be used to help tell stories. Students will create characters and improvise scenes, as well as engage in exercises in movement and voice – deepening their theatrical knowledge of all areas of theatre, including acting, directing, design, and voice. Students will learn to work collaboratively, honing their performance skills through a variety of challenging classes and performance opportunities.

Student Experience

Students enrolled in Arts Conservatory for Teens’ acting program learn all aspects of the art of acting - from basic fundamentals to advanced techniques. Students study improvisation and learn how to integrate elements of creativity, imagination, and humor into their performances. Over the course of the program, faculty members offer learning tools to help students develop intellectually, physically, socially, and emotionally. Lessons and exercises in improvisation, pantomime, play-making, and scene reenactment provide an environment for students to reach their highest potential.

ACT’s classes and workshops also provide a platform for our students to critically engage the past and present of the culture of performing arts.
