In a sprawling pine flatwood, a twisted oak tree stands alone amongst the palmetto scrub. Pine flatwoods provide the ideal habitat for a wide variety of native wildlife including endangered species such as the gopher tortoise. While perhaps not one of Florida’s most favored or forgiving landscapes, these areas provide stunning vistas for those willing to brave them and protection for numerous species amongst the thorny smilax and prickly pears.
