THE WEEKLY CHALLENGER- THE ARTS CONSERVATORY FOR TEENS

ST. PETERSBURG — The Arts Conservatory for Teens (ACT) is striving to get young people involved in the arts so they can better themselves and the community. Co-founded by Alex Harris and Herbert Murphy, Sr., the organization has been giving the area’s youth a chance to shine in the spotlight since 2009.

Accessibility: ACT is committed to ensuring equitable access for people with disabilities or physically challenged. We continue to evaluate and improve all of our students, teaching artists, employees, and visitors' experience and apply relevant accessibility standards.

Tutoring and Mentorship: In an effort to ensure that no students are left to the margins of society, the ACT is committed to providing academic tutoring and mentorship before and after school. Given the poor postsecondary trajectories of underprivileged youth and the barriers they encounter within their immediate contexts, mentoring has emerged as a mechanism for addressing barriers. The prominence of and need for mentoring has increased as opportunities for authentic interactions with adults in out-of-school activities such as sports, the arts, theatre, and various clubs have decreased (Ashtiani & Feliciano, 2018; Raposa et al., 2018).
